MUGA Opening Times – A Quick Update
We’ve recently had a few questions about the opening and closing times of the MUGA, so we wanted to share a bit more information and provide some clarity.
We absolutely recognise how valuable the MUGA is to the community and the benefits of making the most of this fantastic facility. Encouraging participation and active use is something we wholeheartedly support.
That said, the current opening and closing times didn’t come about by chance. They form part of the agreed operating arrangements that were put in place when the MUGA was approved. These hours were carefully set following consultation with our immediate neighbours, the New Forest National Park Authority (NPA), and the New Forest District Council (NFDC) Environmental Health team. The aim was to strike a fair balance between community use, environmental considerations such as noise, and the proximity of nearby homes.
Because of this, the Trust isn’t able to change the opening or closing times on its own. Any adjustment would require further consultation and formal agreement with the NPA and NFDC Environmental Health team to ensure we continue to operate within the agreed conditions.
Now that the MUGA refurbishment has been completed, we’re pleased to share that we’ll be starting work on redeveloping the adjacent green space. This will include improvements such as the introduction of new hedging, helping to enhance the area, support local wildlife, and create a softer, greener setting around the facility for everyone to enjoy.
We’d also like to remind the community that there’s more to enjoy in and around the MUGA than just the court itself. Picnic benches are available for anyone spending time in the area, alongside the tennis net and table tennis table. Bats can also be provided, making it easy for people of all ages to drop in and take part.
We really appreciate everyone taking the time to share their views. All feedback is valued and will be noted should there be a future review of the MUGA’s operating arrangements.
