Dr Will Ward tells the story of Major Peter Weaver’s extraordinary military career which encompassed tanks, infantry, engineering, colonial service and special operations.

During WW2 he volunteered for the secret Auxiliary Units. His Dorset Regiment section impressed Lord Lovat and was later recruited into the SAS. Paddy Mayne admired Weaver’s leadership during a near disaster. Weaver parachuted into France during Operation Bulbasket, escaping a deadly ambush, before fighting in Germany during Operation Archway and witnessing the liberation of Bergen-Belsen.

After VE Day, he served in Norway, Crete and Sudan, trained the Greek Army, and later fought in the Canal Zone. He loved soldiering, sport, fast cars and beautiful women. Drama followed him throughout his life, yet somehow he always escaped.
